The E.O Wilson Biophilia Center is a natural sciences education center that teaches biodiversity and conservation with the primary audience being school-age children. Tasked with designing and developing a touchscreen interactive educating the public about photosynthesis, Relative Scale created an engaging user experience where visitors help native Florida plants grow by gathering ingredients via intuitive gestures.
Converting to a Rive-Driven Pipeline on a Short Timeline
When the E.O. Wilson Biophilia Center approached Relative Scale with another interactive idea, I took the opportunity to lead the team in a Rive-driven animation workflow. I knew that Rive would open up animated possibilities that would elevate the visual storytelling that would not be possible via spritesheets, Lottie, video, or spec sheets. Knowing I wanted to use Rive, I proposed a continuous visual experience where the camera zooms in to parts of the plant and leads the user around the roots, stems, and leaves, until finally revealing the fully grown plant. This project came our way in the midst of our busiest project season to date, and I had only a week to deep dive into Rive and complete my motion pass. The end result is a seamless user experience with detailed but lightweight plant animations.
